Class 365s to Scotrail

You know until you mentioned that, I never noticed! I think the 385s would look nice in the Inter7City livery, ditto the 365s if they get kept on.

I'm not overly keen on light liveries since they can get really grimy in inclement weather (not that it ever rains in Scotland ) but you could be on to something there. Certainly with the 365s, a smaller version of it could perhaps be used to satisfy the branding requirement.

Essentially, to make them 'Scottish' all that is probably required is some logos, internal signage and Fletcher on the PIS - anything else is likely overkill unless their longer term usage was going to be confirmed (at which point they'd presumably do the works when 385s start to come on service).

True, they can't just now. 2050 to Aberdeen maybe with Inverness by 2060?

Not sure a 365 would be exactly suitable for those runs but still better than some trains.

I really like the Saltire livery, it was certainly a breath of fresh air on my trip yesterday...

This discussion reminds me of when Scotrail temporarily brought in a class 90 hauled mk3 carriage set up for North Berwick which they kept in the Virgin livery but just replaced Virgin with Scotrail:

Indeed - I think they would have been more prescriptive if something more ambitious was going to be done. Frankly, at this stage it still isn't known whether or not the traction is suitable…

Agreed. Prolonging the misery for even one day while someone sticks a load of stickers on would be lunacy. Get them in service ASAP and the livery can come later.

With the current unit livery a variation of the SR logo could work on a similar basis to this.

At the moment the brand guidelines afford for the Night blue / Telegrey 4 version or a Black&White version; but, neither necessarily lends themselves to the current livery (based on the example of 365 523) as the blue may jar against the shade of blue that FCC/GN used on the doors, and, Telegrey 4 is too similar to the grey on the livery. An all grey version would perhaps fit the bill?

It's not like they are completely wrongly liveried anyway. Light grey goes with most colours and the light blue on the doors is fine. Just add a ScotRail logo on the bodyside and it will actually look quite smart.

I think you're right, it will. Definitely going to be an improvement in comfort over the 380s anyway.

That's 4 improvements on a 380 in my book, but as with anything it's all a matter of taste.

Agreed. I'm glad Northern have put most of their ex GWR 150/1s into traffic before repaint because they are desperately needed, I think only one or two units at the most have been repainted and fitted with the new toilet modules before entering traffic.

Yes, Greater Anglia publicised the fact that the ex-GN 321's would be left purple to highlight the fact they were on loan whilst the renatus refurbs are carried out. I think rail companies have come round to the fact you can't fool everyone and if they're seen to be making an effort, somehow, its a good thing

I think that's the general consensus here in any case - any extensive attempt at re-liverying is just wasting time (and, frankly, money - not like ASR are especially cash rich).

Yep, they should just get them into service ASAP . My comments on livery were related to if ScotRail kept them on.
