Alas, not the one. Time for another clue, and I'll recap the others as we've crossed to a new page...

1. This journey has a reversal.
2. This journey runs 6 days a week.
3. This journey takes around 3 hours.
4. The journey runs using diesel traction.
5. Both origin and destination stations are through stations.
6. This journey runs through 5 counties.
7. This journey passes a large railway works.

As per the rules, it's been longer than 24 hours so time for another clue:

8. Of the 90 miles of this route, only about 2 miles are electrified.

You're right about the traction, it's a 142...

Another clue:

9. To travel between origin and destination stations by road could take only a third of the time and distance.

Thanks, I didn’t think that was right as I didn’t think there were 5 counties there, but I guess if it touches Notts and Two bits of Lincs.

1) This service starts and ends in the same county
2) The traction is over 20 years old
3) The origin station had a direct service to London
4) The destination station is under 150m above sea level

Even double counting Lincolnshire I only make four, from the start, Lincolnshire > Nottinghamshire > South Yorkshire (three local authority areas, Sheffield, Rotherham & Doncaster) > Lincolnshire, I nearly entered it as a guess as I couldn't think of any other trip which passed a works and traversed a short electrified section and made the poor sod suffer a 142 for as long but you beat me to it. Either way it was a set of clues that made you think.

St Erth - St Ives by Class 150?

I can see where you're coming from. I was thinking of Scunthorpe being in North Lincolnshire and Gainsborough being in West Lindsey. Some count them as different, some the same... hmm..? I'll try think of an easier one next time ;)

I nearly went for the trip around the coast from Carlisle.

Clue 1: This journey takes around 2 hours.
Clue 2: It begins and ends at through stations.
Clue 3: The journey uses post-BR trains.
Clue 4: Both origin and destination have services to London.

In the absence of further guesses, Clue 7: Four of the stations, including the origin are served by East Midlands Trains.

A few more than eight intermediate stations on that run.
