I'm sure the SNP would love that not!

As someone Half English and Half Scottish I do find all a bit over the top, In England we don't have Northern Trains running around with Livery and Carpets based on the English Flag

Good point about the headcode. Just seen it go past Cramlington railcam. It was a pair of power cars back to back (Scotrail livery)

No, but, they are hardly branded as EnglishRail or similar, are they? It does seem to be make sense that the brand which places emphasis on the country is branded using elements of the identity of said country.

If you fancy a more subtle approach - look at the Caledonian Sleeper. Ignore the very obvious ScotRail branding on the moquettes inside which will go away soon - the branding itself is lower key, yet it is immediately obvious and conveys the message of the Highlands fairly well. See page 17 of this document for their blurb.

The way people get so worked up about branding would be hilarious if it weren’t so pathetic.

The company is ScotRail. Why shouldn’t the branding therefore reflect the Scottish national identity?

I'm not saying it shouldn't, but does it need to be so in your face? I'm proud of my Scottish heritage but I don't go about in a kilt and with Saltires painted on my face.

I think they are showing off, and at the same time rubbing the English visitors' noses in the obvious benefits of having (almost) a single rail system with a single objective in their country!

Unlikely as a) many of the Mark 3s in Scotland are of types not being converted - stock sent for the training sets was deliberately not for conversion - and b) the headcode starts with '0' which would be a light engine move.

They ran the core commuter routes into Cardiff in the first round of franchises at Privatisation.

Yeah, not old enough to remember them really. I can just about remember Virgin Red/Black and Strathclyde Orange/Black but that's it from the early 2000s.
