Unfortunately this is common, although the good news is that it's almost certainly nothing to worry about and is just a minor variation which needs checking to make sure it's not symptomatic of anything more serious. It's very frustrating but you'll probably fine. I do recommend you keep any paperwork you're given by the cardiologist (if any - you may not see it) as it will smooth your way through any further medicals if you take it with you.

Thanks for your positive input. I really feel that it must be a slight anomaly that the medical Doctor can't just ignore for safety reasons but the cardiologist will be happy to sign off. The general public must be walking around with lots of heart variations that the ECG will flag up but is not symptomatic of anything serious. If there is a problem then it's beyond my control so I'll just have to roll with it.

Mine was found to be ‘hypertensive’ when I went for a Police medical 8 years ago, but was ultimately okayed by my GP. (I’m not used to medical environments you see )
Hopefully, it won’t be a hurdle again when my driver medical invite comes through, as my lifestyle is totally different nowadays.

I think the issue is that you can get yourself so worked up for your medical (treating it as another ‘assessment’ you have to pass), that your nerves can effectively compromise some of your tests.

I had similar issues, I was rejected initially with suspected Sleep Apnoea, sent to my doc who referred me to a clinic. Came back clear. Then the Occ Health Doc brought up a heart issue from nearly 6 yrs ago, and sent me to a specialist who did echo cardiogram and treadmill test whilst wired to ecg. Both came back clear, but more importantly I found a lot out about my health, and got through to the training course too! All the best!

Couple of guys I work with who were flagged up with ECG problems at Leicester EMT occupational health were sent privately and came back ok. If you are healthy and standard height weight should be nothing to worry about.

Have you resigned from your current position yet? Just keep on good terms as a worst case scenario back up.

I've not handed in my notice yet, just been waiting for the medical.
Should hear back from them this week, hopefully with good news.
My blood pressure was high on the day, the doc said it was ok, probably because of being in a clinic environment but it was too high for me to be comfortable with, especially given the ECG anomaly - 166/81! So I purchased a BP machine and have tested it every day, I'm pleased to say that it has been 120-130/75 each time, which is well within the norm!

Yeah it was a short wait depending when you sat the test during the week, the people who sat them on the Monday still got there email the same time as people who sat it on the Friday.

If EMT have given you a time line for all the stages that need to be sat expect them to keep to those dates and in from you promptly so you have plenty of time to prepare.

Today was the last day for stage one testing.
Cross those fingers.

EMT haven't given us a timeline for this particular intake, I am guessing it will be similar if they want to fill the talent pool soon.

I’ve been racking my brain all night, and am wondering if I’ve actually understood the instructions correctly and misjudged what they’re looking for.

They wanted you to circle the two shapes that are the same and ignore the other combinations whilst counting the tones (only one tone on that stage if I remember correctly).

Did you get through the shapes whilst managing to count the tones?

Also, a couple of things I noticed when I completed the test were:

• You may feel like you’ve slightly miscounted the tones.
• You will have only used half the answer spaces for the tone counting. Don’t panic, you probably didn’t miss any.

Im absolutely convinced that accuracy is the most important factor. someone told me that it was a point for each correct dot and -3 for each incorrect or missed. Not sure how accurate that is but it is something i was told

Does anyone know for how long we are on trainee rate? How many weeks classroom is it? Then followed by a week or so holiday and 4 weeks shadowing? Credit card is going to have to take the strain to make up the shortfall.

I think I read somewhere that it’s around 16 weeks for the Trainee rate, with training broken down into 3 months of classroom learning and a month of handling.
