Hi, AC1 I cant say it was superb but it did go well. Concentration tests were relatively easy as compared to understanding information and error identification tests. Well its all about speed and accuracey I would say.
What surprised me was that everybody in hall did around 21 to 25 in understanding information tests out of 39 question, but one fella sitting on my right well left his pencil 5 minute before the test finish time and shut his book. Robotic I would say
Wish you good luck for your AC2 outcome mate. As you said if one can do Ac1 then he can do Ac2. Keep checking inbox. Thumbs UpAc2 is the formal interview which I hate ...i prefer tests....i can't really say how it went as I don't have results....or aint heard anything yet and my 10days is 2moro....but I think of u can do Ac1 then u can do Ac2 ....( personal opinion )
Thatsis very true, I also followed the same trick and found it much helpful to read the questions first and then going through passage to pick the right information. The trick to the understanding info test is not to read the passage first, but read the questions and find the answers. If you try to read the passage, you spend too much time and brain power processing technical information you won't ever understand.
I finished with 5 minutes to go too using this technique.

It's been a long wait, but I've also had the good news of a training start date for 1st December (a Friday, which seems unusual). Just the medical to pass now (I can feel my blood pressure rising with the thought
I hope to see some of you there, and meet those still waiting in the near future.
Good Luck all...

I love this tip thanks and will give it a try with the test papers. Out of them all, this is probably the one that I am weakest in so hopefully this will help.
Hope it helps you.
I got a technical background but even with that I was spending way too much time comprehending the content when the questions were more about details rather than understanding.
Let's us know how you get on trying this method.
I'm going to try this method also on the test papers. Hows many times did you guys work through the test papers? I'm.thinking once you have answered the practice papers then you will know the answers so makes it hard to practice again If you know what I mean.
Thanks guys.
You've nailed it mate, no point whatsoever in doing the practice tests again and again. Now that you've done them once you know what will be coming your way on the day in terms of format, the practice stuff is pretty much what mock exams were at school. The only thing worth doing is printing more of the SCAAT sheets and practising those.
Thanks for the reply jambo86, I have printed some off and worked through them on the actual computer, when I started I didn't even know what I was looking for lol. I've got a few more weeks yet so enough time to practice. I find looking for the two shapes quite tricky I must admit.
Does that not waste alot of time going back over the line twice.....but that may work better for you...everyone is differentWorking on printed SCAAT sheets is more similar to the AC1 as that is a paper based test. When it comes to the two shape tests, I take it one line at a time and one shape at a time. Run your pen along the line left to right crossing one shape and then return along the line crossing the second shape. I get a better speed and more accuracy that way and it particularly helps on the third test where the two shapes change each line.
This will only work on paper as on the PC you can only return over the line back one shape.

I feel that it does work better for me as my accuracy and speed are both better that way. As you say, it's a case of horses for courses. Try it and if it doesn't work for you, go back to what does work best.
Whatever, good luck to all of those with their AC1s coming up.
Lol sorry I found that funny about 'whizzzzed past it'I know it's what you feel comfortable doing, but trust me by doing it this way you are wasting way too much time.
How many less lines do you complete using your method compared to scanning for both shapes at the same time ? It is a balance of speed and accuracy but this method is too big a sacrifice on speed.
When you're out there driving trains you won't be able to scan back to look for something else as you'll have whizzed past it !! You need to be scanning for 2 things at the same time.

I don't think you should over stress urself, what got me was the similarity of the shaoes in the third round..ur mind plays games a lil bit..well with me it did...and practise sheets do not give u the shapes that will be in the test..it will give u the concept...but dnt over work urself on the practice material ...and do wat u can do an wat u feel is best of what the test paper asks of uI get your point and will try again with both shapes at the same time.
I get your point and will try again with both shapes at the same time.
Thanks guys, I will practice purely on paper now. Does anyone if you can actually miss one or get one wrong or is it purely you have to 100% perfect working through around 6/7 lines?
Also on the day of ac1 do you have a break after each test or is it one after the other until they are completed?
Thanks all
Adam
Ok, so I've installed the group bourdon tool and I'm working through some avast tests, I've printed some off to work through also. What makes a good score as such?
Targets omitted 14
Marked incorrect 0
Total cells 1128
Mean cell time 0.304
Median cell time 0.220
Completed rows 42
Mean row time 7.662
Median row time 7.125
Row fluctuation 9.10
I appreciate your feedback guys.
Thank you all.
There's a short break after you've done 2 tests. But it is just to use the toilet/get a quick drink of water.
There is time between each test as the administrators have to collect and distribute test papers.
If it helps here are my stats for a quick go I just had on my lunch break (with some background distractions)
I'd have knocked off a couple of those omissions on a paper test as I spotted them but software only allows you to go back one space.
Targets Omitted ------------ 12
Marked Incorrect ----------- 2
Speed:
Total Cells ---------------- 1551
Mean Cell Time ------------- 0.208
Median Cell Time ----------- 0.160
Completed Rows ------------- 57
Mean Row Time -------------- 5.182
Median Row Time ------------ 4.910
Vigilance:
Row Fluctuation ------------ 8.96
I get your point and will try again with both shapes at the same time.
It't not all about accuracy and also it's not all about how many lines you get done. Don't get hung up on it.
Practice it by following the rules (I.E left to right, line by line, looking for all symbols at the same time) and you'll do fine.
Hi guys great forum and very helpful
what ID have people taken when they went for there AC1 assessment please?
Cheers
Good luck to everyone I've got my AC1 tomorrow
