Yes oven problems and staff shortages are a favourite at the moment.

Staff shortages is not an acceptable excuse, unless there is a 'flu epidemic. If you haven't got enough staff to run the services you are contracted for, then recruit some more!

Their 24th Dec -2nd Jan is nothing to write home about either. I can't believe they are going to be "dry" for that long. No wonder they had the 1st Class Sale before disclosing what the catering offer was.
24th, 31st and 1st are weekend days so I guess the drinks aren't really being reduced. The 2nd this year will be a U.K. wide bank holiday due to the 1st being a Sunday. I normally avoid trains on bank holidays but don't they run the weekend service normally on those dates?

Haha, Butts you are terrible although a wee single malt would be nice.
I'm still astonished that they don't run a paid for drinks and snacks trolley through first class on weekends and bank holidays tbh.

I would give the BLT a thumbs up. Refreshing and light, and most importantly, not soggy. Not a bad effort.
The hummus wrap is a little meh. The one I had today was almost off by the smell so perhaps that was not the most objective view.

Shame they've taken the Chicken & Bacon wrap of the menu as that was very nice.
The west coast have a roasted veg and hummus wrap at the moment and it smells a bit iffy as well from what the other half has said about it.

A touch off topic but has anyone tried a Cheese Ploughmans baguette from the food bar on VTEC trains yet? They are very tasty

I agree but staff shortages seem to be a recurring theme on the services I've travelled on most of the year.
It's not just first class, the miles the standard trolley has put in over the last six months must be significantly lower than during the same time last year.
Well I must say I'm quite impressed with the roast chicken, it's probably the best meal I've had on a train in over a year.
One thing I will say is the thyme and honey falvour is quite strong so it may not be to everyone's taste if you prefer things plain.
The Thai veg curry appears to be getting served in bowls rather than plates so I assume the pasta on the opposite rotation will be the same.
The cheeses were nice, although the Yorkshire blue is a bit mild for my liking.

Agreed on both counts. They have some strange ideas about meal composition.
Indeed. I'd have thought that boiling a bit if cauliflower was one of the easier things to achieve on a train.

Is the banana and maple cake thing still on the weekend menu? It'd be a shame if it has disappeared.
Roast veg under the chicken - peppers and onions. There was enough of the veg but the potato was a bit thin on the ground. It wasn't a huge portion but it was more filling that some of the previous attempts over the last few months.
Do you mean the banoffee muffin?
If so it's been replaced with
Chocolate and hazelnut cake on one rotation and a red berry and cranberry muffin on the other going by the menus.
