We're in a similar situation as far as mathematics is concerned but slightly more optimism on our part with regards to reality. A 2-2 draw against Hull would've been grabbed with both hands at 1455 but it still feels like 2 points dropped given the way things panned out. Look forward to a trip to Villa Park next season when Wagner has built his own team...

Winchester City missed out on two useful points in the promotion race with a draw in the West Country. Cleeve took an early lead and dominated the first half but Winchester came out stronger in the second and got their reward with a late goal from returning hero Andy Forbes. City were unlucky not to win but were let down by their finishing and need 5 points from their last three games to guarantee a top five finish.

Our same old frailties came to the fore in the end yesterday, missed chances, lack of mental strength and individual errors. We are such a soft touch at times. I'm more than confident Wagner will be able to produce some tangible results next season given a full pre-season and the chance to bring in his own players, Lowe is now confirmed (thank god we don't have to rely on Davidson) and VLP, who was excellent yesterday, also looks to be a done deal.

I agree with all you say here, as fans we need to remember that we're very much a work in progress. Far too many in the crowd seem like they can't wait for Nahki Wells to miss a chance so they can turn to their mate and say "I told you he was ****e".

I'll breathe easier once it's mathematically impossible to go down, even though it's already close. That catastrophic last game against Brum a few years back is still fresh in the memory.

Stockport County are a prime example of how the fortunes of a once-Championship side faded so badly that even League 1, League 2 and Conference Premier was not the end of the downward slide to their current status as a Conference North side. (Apologies for using the old Conference terminology).

I don't think we will come straight back up. The divisions within the club and the playing staff are just too great at the moment. I also don't think we will go down / implode. I reckon we will have next season as a regroup and rebuild and make a promotion push the year after.

I don't see Villa, as a huge club (outside of Birmingham) anymore. The club for sure is in turmoil. Players appear not to want to play for each other and the fan protests, when they have already paid their money, achieves what? Living in the past serves no purpose. So close to the drop in recent years, appears not to be warning enough, though..

I think we (Stockport) acted as a severe wake-up call for ailing ex-Championship clubs regarding how not to run a football club. Whilst a number might slip into League 1 at some point (Wolves, Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday etc) I doubt many would be left to sink as far as we have. Bolton now have a seemingly stable new ownership who have a plan (two things we never really had!), so I expect them to bounce back eventually. They might spend a couple of seasons in League 1, but they'll be back.
