I'm surprised it's not been mentioned yet that Faresaver have acquired Ex Arriva London B7/Gemini LG52DDE for increased loadings on the X34.

Perhaps not an entire surprise. Before Faresaver took the Lackham work and then began competing outright with First, two of the three boards were DD, IIRC. Still, quite a move. I still remember the surprise when they got their first Dart as opposed to wall to wall breadvans

Also, seen in Avonmouth this morning was North Somerset Coaches Ikarus bodied Daf SB220. It seems to have lost its dateless plate and is now back to L510EHD

Interesting to see that Bugler have decided to put back on the 57 reg E200 on 672, unlike the last month where it's been some ALX200 thing and a Vario - how horrible. Is it just too much to ask for to get a decent bus company with modern decent fleet running 672?

On the other Saturday, it was the East Lancs Flyte Dart. Not many on the 1425 departure - only about 5/6 people so wonder if money is tight even with it being supported

Plus from the 12th Dec there are various changes to Wessex UWE services:

https://www.southglos.gov.uk/transp...blic-transport/buses/changes-to-bus-services/

Interesting that the 12 is getting pulled. I don't know the Wessex timetables that well so interesting to see what the others drop out of the PVR...

U.W.E = Sure work but it's seasonal.
Other = Not as sure but year round.

So I guess they are taking a risk. I guess Wessex might introduce something to compete with the 2, X39 or 75

Have just read over on the South Glos Council website that the 622 is being reverted back to its former route of Chipping Sodbury to Cribbs Causeway with effect from 1st November.

Although its a bit of a disappointment that the direct service from Yate to Tetbury will be lost I can see much more sense in the 622 serving Cribbs Causeway rather than Tetbury. My understanding is the Yate to Tetbury section of the 622 is not well used.

I do appreciate that the 27 between Old Sodbury and Tetbury is funded by Gloucestershire Council but personally I'd have had the 620 and 27 services split at Yate with the opportunity to connect between the two- as was the case when Cotswold Green last operated the route

This is what I have always argued!

I would introduce a new Yate centred network.

A: Yate - Bath (2 hourly) this can be achieved with the one bus if the service was cut back from Old Sodbury to Yate.

B: Yate - Malmesbury (2 hourly) can also be achieved with just 1 bus.

C: Yate - Tetbury (2 hourly) just 1 bus needed.

D: Wotton - Southmead (As now but without the Cribbs bit)

E: Yate - Cribbs Causeway (As the current 81 but extended to Cribbs)

F: Yate - Thornbury (Just a small service with any free buses to maintain the link)

G: Cribbs - Dursley (As the current 87)

Extending the 81 from UWE to Cribbs is a heck of a double run from Hatchet Rd to UWE and back!

How about one serving Parkway, UWE and then Ring Road to Southmead, and the other serving Parkway and Cribbs?

I thought I'd take a different walk to work this morning, via Whiteladies Road to see the new double deckers on Wessex's new "The One" service on the inagural day of this new service. Was a little surprised to see that the service is currently formed of single deckers, oh well the new double deckers haven't arrived yet then. Was also a little surprised to see the destination display says 1 and not The One as I was expecting. Seen about five of these services alltogether in either direction during my walk to the Centre. There were no more than about five passengers onboard them. But I expect passenger volumes will increase over the coming weeks and months.

This evening I thought I'd try out one of these services from Union Street to Clifton Down Shopping Centre. Was pleasantly surprised that the fare was only £1 single, compared to the £1.50 fare First charge. That's a bonus in my book. If I haven't got a weekly First pass or a First Day Rider, and I'm making a similar journey in future I'd rather pay £1 single on Wessex than £1.50 with First. Anyway, this new service number caused some confusion to some passengers. As they boarded with a First Day Rider or weekly pass, and the driver said "No you can't use that on this one. This is Wessex.". But the destination display did say "Cribbs Causeway 1" exactly what the destination display on a Northbound First service 1 would say! And with it being dark too, it can be a little more difficult for people to recognise whether the buses are a First or Wessex bus. So I expect this will cause some confusion to a number of passengers over the coming weeks and months.

Just seen a grey Hallmark liveried coach on the 3X
I have seen 2 on the 16 (City Centre - UoB - Stoke Bishop Halls of Residence) over the last week or so.

On another point I saw yesterday, parked at the top of Blackboy Hill, a B7RLE in CityFox branding. I was going in the opposite direction, however, and so don't know the registration.

As far has been reported CityFox has a MAN Meridian not a B7RLE. Not sure what operator disc this is used on.

Cityfox's SF08RRO was seen at Cribbs this lunchtime departing 'To the moon'. About as believeable as most of the routes they've been reported as operating!

Dispite having three First liveried vehicles, in theory, available Y243DRC has added variety to the Abus workings on X9 again this week, plus Optare Spectra AP04BUS this morning!

The dart on loan from First decided it had had enough just before @Bristol on the way out of Bristol in the middle of the rush hour this evening. The effect on the traffic was somewhat predictable, and it was the first day of the Bristol Hippodrome panto as well!

All together now children: It's behind you. No it's not - it's in front of you and it's blocking the road!!

Wessex UWE service changes:

http://www.wessexbus.com/news/ChangestoWessexStarbusesservingUWE_415.html

11 - All Sat journey's withdrawn
12 - Withdrawn totally (Did First introduce a competing service over this route?)
13 - Frequency reduced from every 10 mins to every 15 mins

I assume that will free up a few buses?

Does anyone have any idea how theOne is doing?

Hmmm. Makes you wonder what they have up their sleeve. I can't just see them vacating Bristol without a fight.

Don't think the one is doing very well.

Me either!

Since First introduced various additional services to UWE, maybe those routes/corridors are now just simply over bussed. I suspect the redundant resources will be re-deployed elsewhere within Bristol. Given the recent Bio-gas bid & building of a re-fuelling station, Wessex & Avonmouth depot are here to stay.

The part extract of theOne announcement below, suggests new routes were planned for 2016 at the same time theOne was originally planned:

http://www.wessexbus.com/news/Newlow-costserviceTheOnestartinginNovember_388.html
We are looking to make this route a success with dedicated vehicles, dedicated staff with low-cost and simple fares. We are also now working on further routes that we can introduce through early 2016.”

Seen a 16 yesterday with an interesting destination display. It said "Sorry, Full up 16". First time I've saw that before on any bus. And a good idea actually. Allthough the driver would have to remember to change the display back again, when there becomes more spaces available again.

I've seen Wessex buses in Bath with "Bus Full". I agree it is a very good idea.

Is this allowed under the PSVAR? I note from Route One magazine:

Location and type of destination information screens is also regulated: Besides the conventional front display, it is necessary to display both the route number and destination on the nearside adjacent to the door.

A rear route number repeater, which can display a minimum of three characters, is also required, and all displays must be lit at night. Destination information may not be written solely in capitals.

A couple of nights ago a City Fox taxi was helpfully blocking the bus stop outside the Bristol Fashion during the evening rush hour!

984 was previously used for a P&R service to Cabot Circus from Frenchay UWE a couple of years back. As others have said, I'm pretty sure there has been no application/advertisement of such a service.

Is there anything to stop a random member of the public buying their own bus and running it round the streets (obviously with an applicable drivers licence) ?

Yes, you need an Operators License for hire and reward
