Have you ever done anything worthy of points, but not been caught? ;)

You expect me to answer that on a public forum...?!

Ever spadded?

Only a technical SPAD when the signaller lost the entire panel and had to revert every peg back to danger. That got the old sphincter going 19 to the dozen.

The signal was hidden around a bend but had been provided with a banner repeater which was "off". I went over the AWS magnet and got the bell, but when I got further around the corner the signal was at red. Obviously I dropped the lot, but from 60mph I went sailing past and stopped halfway up to the next peg.

Funniest reply to a 'please explain'?

Our lot don't like humour. I got into hot water because I let rip on a fault slip, so reports must be written professionally.

However, before they started getting all uptight about it a colleague did submit a blinder. He'd delayed his train at Broxbourne because he was desperate for the loo. When they asked him to submit a report he simply put that he'd needed to go to the toilet. The supervisor refused to accept it and asked him to submit another one. So he went away and crafted this long report explaining everything. I don't know precisely what he'd written, but when arranged down the page the first letter of each lined went as follows.

I
N
E
E
D
E
D
A
S
H
I
T

I did also hear of a great one in a CT fault book. The driver had reported hearing a loud bang from under the cab as he was going through Melton Mowbray. The fitter replied: "Unit inspected. Large pork pie found wedged in leading bogie."

Worst class to drive?

Hmm. Classes driven: Cl315, Cl317 and Cl153 (for all of 3/4 of a mile).

I actually quite like our units. They aren't very modern but they are easy to drive. The Scud was just on skidpan training so I never had a chance to get a proper feel for it, but it was very different to the units I actually "sign".

So out of the above drivers ^

If you see people/kids/anyone waving or doing the 'pulling the chain' would you;

1. Blast the horn

2. Pretend not to look at them

3. Wave back

If you did blast the horn - was it just a normal 1/2 tone or numourous times to try and make up a tune or just for a laugh...

Replies please

Little kiddies waving at a passing train is one thing!

Adolescents getting 'horny' about air being passed through a piece of equipment just need to grow up!

If you want to hear a horn, go and stand by a crossing for the day, rather than jumping round platforms like you're defective in some important manner.

What is exciting about a horn!

Couldn't agree more. There are some adults around bristol, mainly "bathspacentral" who enjoy the same sort of thing!!

How many times do you blow up at random objects like an orange duvet in a garden near by?

Nearly every day

Hmm, I can't understand why I like hearing horns, but then it's similar to people being overly interested in announcements? just what ever flicks your switch, can't explain it but just like it.

For the record, I do have some suttleness, I wouldn't go waving to every train that passes on a busy station eg Bristol Temple Meads, but I do when on a small station eg Cholsey.

Sorry if you don't like that.

I think if a little kid does it, it's OK. The video posted was of HST Howard, he's 15 and just about gets away with it, but yes I bet they are laughing in the cab.

But when people like Bathspacentral do it, it's just plain embarrasing!!!

Things like this http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=u1L5mSsj7wA are the sort of thing that make 'normals' think we are insane. And don't get me started on Captain Pink...

It's a bit like asking to go in a train cab. Fine for a kid to do it, but this is just plain ridiculous.

I appreciate it and usually wave after drivers give me a toot, usually on my patch if they recognise me. Might get a few tomorrow when I see Q14. Should be some nice thrash as well - strange hand movements not required 8)

If someone who was 15 was caught slipping on Youtube doing hand movements like that as if it was normal behaviour and went to a secondary school like mine, they would get seriously bullied. It looks like something a 4 year old would do.

Ah,its just a bit of harmless fun,I always toot and wave back..wheres the harm in the breakdancing as well?

I remember waving like mad at the drivers of Peaks as they went through our local station on the Thames-Clyde express in the 70's and 80's just to get the horn blowed at me..I'm no better so i cant judge no-one!!

Quick question (about ruddy horns again); you see a small child (toddler), with a parent, waving to you who's obviously just out to watch the "big twains" go by... Would you give the horn a honk then?

Some TOC's do take in drivers "off the street" and train them.

Did you work in other positions on the railways before becoming drivers?

No...I joined the railways at 16 as a traction trainee,the old way into train driving.I trained and became a secondman,or drivers assistant,until I was 20 and a half,then commenced driver training,which I passed in August 1992.

Have you ever waved to spotters while going in excess of 60mph?
