Note that there were four new additions to the League in this period, meaning a club standing still - especially near the bottom (*cough* Scunthorpe *cough*) - is actually climbing a small distance.

Don't worry, Scunthorpe will climb, and Southend will fall further!

It didn't help Scunthorpe's cause though, spending so long in the basement division and a major releagtion scare in 2003/04 (despite having the leagues top goal scorer).

Just to aid everyones dislike of Sir alex, he had gone into his good samaritan mode, to help the team he supported as a boy through financial difficulties.

About 600 Dunfermline fans who gathered at the town's Carnegie Hall heard that Sir Alex Ferguson has offered to send a Manchester United team to Fife to play in a fund-raising match for the club.

The Pars' finances are in a parlous state and the club learned on Friday that Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs is to serve it a winding-up order.

"He is a very busy man but he is a true fan," said Jim Leishman of Ferguson.

"We've to go and speak to him to see if he can come up with something."

The offer from the Manchester United boss came about when Roy Barry, who played for the Pars at the same time as Ferguson, was at Old Trafford recently for a match and Ferguson suggested staging a friendly game at East End Park to help his former club.

Leishman, charged with heading the steering group to bring fans, local business and the existing board of the First Division club together, also thanked Fife rivals Raith Rovers and Cowdenbeath for their willingness to help.

After addressing fans at the packed meeting on Monday night, he told BBC Scotland: "The gesture from Raith Rovers for Saturday is that, for every supporter over 2,000 in the Dunfermline away end, they will donate that money to Dunfermline Athletic Football Club."

A statement on the Stark's Park club's website said: "Dunfermline Athletic are, and hopefully always will be, our fiercest sporting rivals…. but they are also our friends, and we would like to offer our friends a helping hand in their hour of need."

Oldham match with Hartlepool have been call off due to frozen pitch and also Crewe v Sheff Utd, Doncaster v Carlisle and Bury v Scunthorpe have also call off due to Frozen pitch.

Oldham match with Hartlepool will be played on 19th March mean Latics have still going to played two home matches (Saturday and tuesday) if we can get four points out of them two matches then I be happy

That's more like it. My prediction is Bournemouth will end up 57th, ie. just outside the top half of League 1. We always are. Whichever joint national table you look at we are 13th in Division 3 - our rightful home.

For the record, for Southend my bet is 57th, i.e. the equivalent of 13th in League One. I have only done up to 1996 so far though and in that time their position would have been far better (i.e. roughly 40th). I honestly don't know where they will end up.

Please find attached a copy of the data I have developed relating to clubs' performances over the last 20 full seasons of English league football. A total of 107 clubs are presented, ranging from the Giants of the Prem to the newcomers in League Two.

The most important matter can be found under "League Data". As an example of this system, here are the final results for the 20 clubs shown previously, in alphabetical order. All clubs can be researched using this system using the Club Data link.

Note that positions are rounded (up or down) to the nearest one, so Man Utd fans might be in for a bit of a shock...!

Oh, for those interested in the L1 relegation battle (namely myself and the Oldham supporters), it's been a bad night for us. Colchester drew 2-2 away to Coventry, Shrewsbury beat MK Dons 3-2 (also away), and to complete a trio of away wins, Preston travelled to Notts County and won 1-0.

The only plus point in the relegation battle was Bournemouth's 1-0 win away to Stevenage ....

So what you are telling me is that we were doing a lot worse in the last 20 years compared to the time period before that? Well, sounds about right I guess, with two spells of administration and two yoyos between Divisions 3 and 4.

I hadn't even realised how badly they had slid down the table. Shows how much attention I've been paying to League One this year - but then, I have little reason to do so this year. I would agree that they are probably safe; an average of one point per game is a fair approximation for the number of points need to survive - I know, it isn't always true, as EM2 would attest to - but their score of 46 should see them just about home.

No team in Britain comes anywhere near Barcelona when it comes to passing, movement off the ball and shooting accuracy.

You watch teams like Man U. and Liverpool and Chelsea etc. and sometimes the inability of millionaire players to trap a ball and pass to another player is downright shocking.

They need to play 21 league games between now and May 5th, and 2 Saturdays are already unavailable to due them playing in the FA Vase Semi final against Spennymoor.

Didn't Burton Albion at one stage have up to 8 games in hand against their relegation rivals in the last few years?

Another one I remember is Port Vale (I think) about ten years ago who had only played 40 when the rest of the league had all played 44. Can't remember what happened.
