I'm not keen on these carnet tickets. Wide open to fraud on one side, and wide open to problems, maybe caused by something as daft as bad handwriting!

So then 'Zee', am I to take it that the inspector withdrew your ticket and kept hold of it? If so, that will be central to any case they may decide to bring against you. If it was clearly dated with the correct date, then I can't see how they could bring a fare evasion case to Court. If it wasn't clearly dated, then it's probably a Regulation of Railways Act prosecution.

Regarding settling out of Court - see my post earlier. There's a previous thread where the original poster was unable to settle, as FCC wouldn't let him! It's at their discretion as to whether they settle or not, and if they have a watertight case, then they may choose not to. Why do you want to settle though - if you held a valid ticket?! If that was me, I'd be fighting tooth and nail.

My carnet tickets are peak carpets I use for both travelling too and from work.

I want to settle because frankly I dont want to be dealing with any headache involved in this matter. A couple of hundred quid is worth the piece of mind

Sorry for being a bit silly here, but why would you just want to settle if you have done nothing wrong? If you're protesting your innocence then do not settle. Fight it

Hmmmm, I do find that a little strange! Regardless of my opinion there though, you should be aware that FCC might not want to settle - they don't always settle out of Court!

- I'm sick and tired of being made to feel like a criminal for having a valid ticket, or occassionally lapsing to have a date on it. FCC should of clearly explained these rules to me rather than just throwing fines down my neck.
.

Reading that it appears that the OP seems to have a problem with dating these tickets and has been done before for it especially with the "throwing fines down my neck" comment.

115 means 'Season/rover ticket ceased to be valid after the date shown.'

London Underground had zone 1 Carnet tickets for a number of years, which had to be validated by being passed through a barrier, or a Carnet validator. No physical mark was made on the ticket, but Revenue Control Inspectors carried a device to read all tickets and thus could check if the Carnet was validated (or not).

I presume that no such device exists for National Rail, or that the cost of providing it, or Carnet validators for ungated is deemed prohibitive by First Capital Connect, hence the solution of writing on the date for on-train inspections.

Of course Carnets on LUL are now obsolete with Oyster, and I'd imagine when a future Smartcard ticketing scheme is rolled out onto FCC, they'd get rid of them too.

Same error code I get. FCC needs to fix it because while I get waived through it is a pretty good way to have some revenue officers jump to conclusions as soon as they hear the rejection beeps (nobody has ever checked the code so they can't know what the error actually is).

I've used many tickets. My pen usually works. Sometimes it doesn't even after testing on my hand or another bit of paper and I must go over the same bit of card again and hope it doesn't tear the orange off. It's like a gamble every time!

the gates are usually set to reject carnets to check the date boxes, not just to ensure they are dated but to check for alterations, it's when code "135" shows that you may find yourself in the ****!

I have separated out the discussion about issues relating to Carnet tickets into a different thread.

I appreciate that it is sometimes easy to diverge onto other topics however please try your best to remain on topic.
